What I Love About A.C.E School of Tomorrow!
One Mom's Homeschool Adventure!
Here is my from the heart informal share about my use of my new curriculum :) Evonne
What I love, love, love about School of Tomorrow:
Well, I love that my son is reading the Bible itself for his Bible class time! It is copied right into the PACE so he can see it with big, clear print and answer questions!
I love, love, love, that my daughter in first grade, is reading stories in the PACE all on her own! They use an awesome technique that I honestly have never seen before that really works to get kids reading and into the fun stuff right away!
They write a word such as learn like this- learn
See how the letters are darker where the sound is heard?
My daughter can read big words right now, enjoy her studies, as she learns each more advanced phonics rules throughout her year!
Guys, she is teaching herself! She loves that!
My son, 4th grade, likes more attention. That is fine! It is our homeschool, so we make it work for us!
For only the second time, he is reading chapter books now. A.C.E. assigns them and is loving to share about it. He is reading about a missionary (fiction) in China and well, this is a breakthrough for a boy who never liked reading.
His cursive takes a little longer, but is beautiful!
we did 2 science projects, very easy- but fun, it the first couple of days.
I love, love, love that I don't have to be the bad guy. Meaning, he scores himself, and if their is a boo- boo, he A.C.E. tells him, not mommy, lol.
This keeps attitude adjustments from having to happen because he just excepts if an answer is mistake, and he has an opportunity to correct it.
Isn't that part of the Christian walk, we err, and then face the consequences.
We have a chance to "repent" (a little different I know for homeschool) and then try again with a clean slate! You do that with A.C.E.
I love, love, love, that the directions are clear. I, mommy, struggle with disorganization. And,, guess what, there is almost nothing to organize- yeah!
No long, I'm sorry, teacher's manual to bear through. It is designed to be simple to get going- I love that!!
I am definitely getting excited because, don't laugh, I even got some mini flags out of church's back rooms for my kids.
Instead of them yelling, Mommy, mommy, and sounding like they are in a panic, lol. they now say "blue flag," which I know means scoring or a question. Ah, so orderly, and it is fun for my first grader to wave her flag!
The "comic" strips are awesome. We were learning about being submissive in one, and then my son had to write about how he was submissive. He wrote he was submissive by doing his homeschool. He was applying it to real life, so that was great. Wonderful biblical character traits are taught throughout!
One area where we are working, the speed we work is slower than others. We are supposed to do about 4 pages a day in each subject. Well, that works for my first grader, but my son genuinely is working, and is completing about 2 pages a day- which also includes chapter reading and a relearning of cursive. Well, we started early this year and I think our speed will pick up, if not we can study through the summer. That is one area I am praying for wisdom :)
I have not used A.C.E. before for many reasons. One, simply, was because I did not want to learn a new system, I was scared of change. Plus, we tend to buy our books a little a time when we have $, lol, and I did not know you can do that with A.C.E. - you can! Each PACE is a little over $2, that is doable!
I have heard criticism of the program and I let it sway me.
However, as of right now, I am loving it!
With the cursive, King James reading, and independent work for even the young ones, it is much more advanced that I was led to believe!
If you want more advanced, you can start with a later P.A.C.E.
I have found it hands-on with the science projects and it is just something that works! We love that are kids are becoming so saturated with God's Word.
That is why we homeschool, and it is nice to be back to that!
Lastly, the kids feel good about themselves that they can succeed at clear and manageable goals...mommy likes that too!

I'm glad it's in color now. Before it felt old, you know, kind of like a black-and-white television. Nowadays we have high definition color TV, and it's the same with improvements in everything. Times are a-changin'. :)

I enjoyed reading this. We use A.C.E. for our five children as our core. I cannot even begin to say how much it has blessed our family. =o) I have done a lot of blogging about A.C.E. and how we organize it in our home, etc...you can check my blog if you would like, its in the signature below.

Whoo, that was an exciting missionary story too! It has changed alot, full color, hands-on, and most of all it is homeschooling! Our family chats and takes breaks, and reads on the bed, and are in our pjs way too long, lol.

They must have changed A.C.E. a lot since way back 30 years ago when I used it in Guatemala. This is how I felt about it: The Bomb that Went off at my Friend's House
