Shall We Drink The Betrothal Cup? Jewish Roots Mini Book Study!
She touched the auburn colored wine to her lips. Her veil tickled her lips into an even deeper smile. Under the chuppah (canopy) she stood, carefully covered from the heat of the noon day sun. With each sip she was saying yes, yes, in this ancient eyrusin ceremony. As the wine of joy heated her throat, she was henceforth betrothing herself to her bridegroom, promising herself to only him...forever.
Now journey to a different place, an upper room. The rich aroma of crisped, unleavened bread in the hot Jerusalem air. A shelter borrowed from one of God's chosen people. A gathering of disciples looking to their Rabbi.
Enter the bethrothal room...
Matthew 26:27-29
King James Version (KJV)
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
The Bridegroom became the covering. His cup, the marriage cup.
Prayer Affirmation:
May I drink and thirst no more. The Bridegroom has accepted me. Betrothal joy beams radiantly from my heart. Glory to Him who has sought me as His Bride!
