I know…I know we are not supposed to talk about politics or religion with people. If the truth be told that saying has some wisdom behind it. If we talk about the weather, what we ate for dinner, our new diet, what is on sale at the grocery store, what our pet is doing, how we plan to clean out the garage, our garden, or a new recipe we will have many more friends and avoid any conflicts or arguing. Life would be well sort of “happy” and less stressful. To live a life of the superficial…to live a life of talking twaddle has its advantages for sure. Besides, people will like you more, you will be popular and have many more friends. Who doesn’t enjoy having the acceptance and approval of friends? After all, we do not want to be lonely and feel unloved.
Sometimes I feel like the girl “Anne” in the film “Anne of Green Gables” She had so much to say…and only said half of what was really on her mind. Folks said her “Tongue was hinged in the middle” and that she could “Talk a hind leg off of a mule.” Small talk is okay. I am fine with this for a while…but then after a spell of talking twaddle, it seems like someone should introduce a conversation that matters. What is really important for folks to know. What is really important to say. What has true value…eternal value. Why don’t folks want to have deep discussions anymore?
I recently finished reading the Ray Bradbury book Fahrenheit 454. This science fiction futuristic story was fascinating to me because there were so many parallels between what Ray Bradbury wrote over 50 years ago…and what is happening right now. Do you know why there were no front porches in the futuristic towns in this book? Well, the folks in charge, did not like front porches because then folks would talk. They would have deep discussions at the end of their day, and make plans for the future. They would discuss feelings and opinions about books they had read but books were forbidden and burned in this futuristic town. Books gave folks ideas and made them talk about deep things like politics and religion. When folks talked they were harder to control. Those in charge wanted folks to be busy doing nothing and watching silly television programs and hooked up to earphone things all day long. They did not want any new ideas or thoughts introduced or discussed because that would ruin their plan. Everyone should be the same, think the same thoughts, and live out their lives in a state of apathy. Even if their town is dying, and their leaders are corrupt, folks should keep busy listening to their music, watching their stupid programs and never talk about anything really important…like politics or religion. Although the folks in charge here in our America want to control and regulate the internet …..at least for now…we can be happy to have at least one place to discuss politics and religion. ~Anne ![]()

That was a good post (on your blog) Daixin and one that makes you want to learn more about the subject. It is a frightening thought that we may not have the courage to stand against evil. My prayer is that we will be strong when faced with this and that through God we will stand firm. I'm going to enjoy visiting your blog again. I tried to comment but it was not accepted. Blessings to you as you train and disciple your little ones. Anne
Comment by Daixin Yin on October 30, 2012 at 1:17am Thank you Anne! Yes, homeschooling could be a wonderful way in fostering independent thinking in our children. Talking about independent thinking, history, and education, you might be interested this blog post I wrote earlier this year.

Daixin Yin...I just looked at your photos. You have a lovely family! ~Anne

Wow...I would love to hear more about your life in China. I'm glad things are changing in China. I heard that now starting a business is easier in China (less regulations and control) than in some parts of the United States. Even here folks have been influenced by so much propaganda. Most of the news organizations wholeheartedly support the socialist candidate, the university professors, the teachers unions, Hollywood, the government schools etc. The public schools have been very successful indoctrinating the masses of children by removing God from the curriculum and supporting a "religion" of atheism and a leftist (anti-free market, anti-God) worldview. Then if our children attend a secular university, this leftist worldview is re-enforced. Homeschooling is a wonderful option for families who desire to be individuals and reject the "group-think" idea that is dominant in our society right now. What is so sad to me is that folks today in America do not want to discuss politics and yet they are benefiting from the sacrifice of past Americans who have died for their freedom to speak. They are enjoying the freedom that was passed to them from our founders who sacrificed all in order to have a free republic. A simple history curriculum, like A Beka history speaks of this and also God's providence in America. At the close of our Constitutional convention in 1787, a woman asked Benjamin Franklin what type of government the Constitution was bringing into existence. Franklin replied, "A republic, if you can keep it." It's really up to the American people if we keep our republic or not. May the Lord Bless you Daixin Yin! I've really enjoyed this chat!

Comment by Daixin Yin on October 29, 2012 at 12:51am I grew up in a communist country too (China). During the past two decades, China has diverted from the traditional communism and people have more freedom now including religious freedom to some degree. One good news is that many people, young and old, are disillusioned from the government propaganda. However, it is astonishing how deep one can be deceived by the communist and socialist propaganda. A few of my Chinese relatives and friends (including my father) still believe that the ideology of socialism is good. They say, "It was those bad apples corrupted it.", even though some of them had suffered dearly during the culture revolution, even though they now know that they had been lied. How sad is that!
I don't think that you need to live under communism to understand the danger, but you do have to know and understand history. Sadly, many American citizens don't even know much about her own history, let alone world history.

Thanks Susan. I'm not a musician.....just love music! My friend in Spokane(who you know) and I used to sing together when we were girls. Music is a vacation from everyday life....even politics! Blessings, Anne

You have a beautiful voice, Anne. I didn't know you were a musician. :)

That's so sad Daixin...and one reason our republic is dying. I have a friend who is a neighbor who lived under the dictatorship of Fidel Castro in Cuba. She worked in one of his camps as a little girl and saw her country change under his leadership. Folks were afraid to talk...they were poor and hungry. She said that one of the first thing Fidel did was send all the priests and nuns back to their own countries (Spain, Ecuador etc) and closed all of the churches.
She told me that the Americans do not understand because most have never lived under communism. Sadly now it's almost chic or cool to be a communist or a member of some socialist group...especially in Hollywood. If we refuse to talk about this (politics) God "permissive will" will allow our country to be under the leadership that the people have chosen...even if it is a dictatorship or corrupt administration. We need to talk about this...in our homes, at our neighbors gates, in the grocery stores, on our front porches at night, and above all...in our churches. We need to speak boldly the truth...in love...and humility. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German Protestant theologian who lost his life opposing Hitler and Nazism once said, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil … Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” Blessings to you Daixin Yin. May God have mercy upon our America...so that we may still be a light to the whole world. ~Anne
Comment by Daixin Yin on October 28, 2012 at 12:23am I feel your sadness, Anne. Leadership at my church tends to steer away from politics, and people simply don't talk about it. I witnessed an interesting thing while assisting at last week's children's Sunday school class. During a discussion on "trust", a few kids brought up names of presidential candidates. In response, the teacher said, "I am not interested in politics. Politicians are politicians." Uh? What is he really saying to the children? "Politics and religion don't mix?"

Hello Lisa,
Yes, if you know what is really happening, if you have done your homework, its nearly impossible to not be edgy. If we don't vote in folks who support the constitution "preaching Christ Crucified" will have to be done underground because there will not be any freedom of religion. One day I was so sad about the way our country is changing...by the apathy...etc. that I wrote a song about it. My boys helped me. It's called "Wake-Up America" My guitar playing was not the best but this came from my heart. http://youtu.be/Wgju3Y4Gc0Q I pray folks will wake up before we lose our freedoms completely.
Blessings, Anne
