Doesn't this sound fun? We did a pretty long unit study about geography this year, so I thought participating in this summer postcard exchange would be a way to have a little fun this summer, and keep the gray matter from leaking out of my kids' ears over the summer months - always a challenge!
We're also doing a couple of summer reading programs this year. Our local library has a promotion going on, and Barnes and Noble does one too. And the free summer movies at the local theater have been great this year - and you can't beat the price! Our homeschool group has some field trips planned, and there's always swimming and outdoor stuff too.
I've tried to toss in a few educational things into the mix. Besides the postcard exchange, I made some printable word search pages to take along during road trips. There's a word search maker I found that's been really useful for that.
Summer is a perfect time to finish up what you didn't accomplish during the school year, or do something you know you won't have time for in your regular schedule. Try combining some gardening lessons and nutrition curriculum for a great mix this summer - growing a little something a fun project-based learning experience, it gets the kids outdoors, and you can eat it too!
