Donna Alexander has not received any gifts yet
I feel like the school system is actually holding my son down or back. He makes straight A's but sleeps through most of his classes.
There are so many things that I want him to learn but we never have time b/c of the school hours. I want him to learn the things he would learn in a school setting but just as important, to us anyway, is Survival. About the beauty he will find outside in God's Country. (what we call the wooded area's around here)
I want God to be in every lesson that he studies!
I want him to learn everything he can about roughing it, camping, repelling, rock climbing, ect.
I want him to not only know about things but to have experience in doing all of them. He loves the outdoor life and we are going to take full advantage of that love and the extra time that we will now have!
Oh, but where do we start?
Lori Burkhardt said… P.S. There are tons of things for Science and Nature too!
Lori Burkhardt said… Welcome, Donna! I pray that you will be able to find answers and help through this group for you and your son. Our daughters are adults now but we still have 3 sons (11,13,15) at home. I understand about wanting your son to learn about Survival in "God's Country". Nature Study is extremely important and so many school subjects can be incorporated into it. Such as Geometry & Physics(learning to build a tree stand, dock, fort, etc). Statistics (if you're lost in the woods and only have a certain amount of food how many days will it last and how best to ration it). English (research how to build something and write a paper on your findings or journal on the process), (Speech) teach a group how to build what you made or whatever you researched about. Tons of creative ways to make a school in the woods! Have a great, enjoyable time in your growing area!
