Discussing the various homeschool programs and curricula available used to be a favorite topic of mine. Pouring over catalogs while I drink my afternoon tea is still something I enjoy on occasion, however my enthusiasm is somewhat waning these days. There was a season when I believed that a perfect curriculum, producing amazing results in my children, could actually be found in one of those catalogs. Now though after homeschooling for over 10 years, I’ve come to realize that just as there is…

Our family has been homeschooling for over 10 years now. The longer we homeschool, the more friends we encounter who have returned to the government school in some form or another (public school at home program, charter etc.) My homeschool mentor warned me that one day we would feel alone as though walking a narrow road...within a narrow road. She was so right…

I know…I know we are not supposed to talk about politics or religion with people. If the truth be told that saying has some wisdom behind it. If we talk about the weather, what we ate for dinner, our new diet, what is on sale at the grocery store, what our pet is doing, how we plan to clean out the…

Hi Anne,
Thank you for your comments and ideas. My boys are in 3rd and 7th grades, and would probably welcome a root canal over having to do math on Saturdays or during the summer! My 3rd grader uses Abeka, and my 7th grader was using Saxon and has just started to use Life of Fred.
I'm trying to decide what math curriculum to use next year for my 3rd grader. I don't care for Abeka. He struggled with it for several months, but now seems to be okay with it. I can't decide what method is best for him. I barely understand the difference between sequential, sequential-mastery, spiral, and incremental approaches.
Any thoughts/suggestions?
Thank you for the friendship invitation -- I appreciate it so! BTW, I love your home page; a real like minded gal :) Abundant blessings!
