Are you aware of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and how this affects us as parents? I wasn't. I was shocked to learn that if this goes into affect it can not be changed. So, if you live…Continue

Hello everyone! I just joined the HSC, and decided to check out the groups on here. I live in Dickson Tennessee and I have been homeschooling for 3 years now, my son is 9 years old and loves it! I am really enjoying the experience of homeschooling my son and wouldn't want it any other way.

Hello All,

I live in Hendersonville, Tn. and have 3 special needs children, 15 yo son, 14 yo daughter, and a 12 yo daughter. Moved here from Chicago (and ready to go back)! Our family has been homeschooling for 4 years now and love it.

I am a stay at home mom that designs jewerly and cakes, my husband drives for a tour. Our children are all into music and the performing arts.

would love to meet others here

Hi there. Just found THC tonight and then found this TN group. What a great idea this website it and where have I been that I'm just now finding out about it??!!

I live in Sumner County and we've been hs'ing for 4 years now. We have a 13 year old son and a 10 year old daughter. I attend a church where nearly every family homeschools so for now that makes up our HS group. Really looking forward to exploring the site a lot more and getting to know everyone.

Hello, new to the group!  I live in Wilson Co. and have been homeschooling for 11 years!  I currently have a 2nd grader that I school.  Love spending the time with her by my side, but do need breaks every now and then. :)  I am part of a homeschool tutorial group and love it!

Hello. I live on the Shelby/Fayette county line and am interested in homeschooling. Is anyone available to give me a 'rundown' on how all this works?

Hello Marissa, I live in the Memphis area :-)
I don't have an answer to your dance question (other than to say if the environment is less than desirous, drop it), I just wanted to say 'hello' to a local yocal.

Hello all,
We live in the Memphis area. I'd love some input re: extra-curriculuar activities. My 8 y.o. daughter is a dancer and has been dancing competitively for 2 years. It is incredibly expensive, and I'm beginning to dislike some of the social issues that I see unfolding in it. I'm interested in finding something else for her in terms of extra-curricular activity, but I'm concerned about making her leave dance b/c it has become such a huge part of her life. Honestly, I don't mind the long hours (she dances 15-20 hours/week), b/c it is such a network of friends for her and has become a part of our family, but the cut-throat nature of competitive dance, as well as some of the less humble and modest aspects of it are bothering me. Do any of your kids participate in an activity that gives them that wonderful outlet of friendship and comraderie, but in a more positive environment? Thanks in advance, for your thoughts. -Marissa

Kellie,
Hello and welcome to the group! Just curious - what is it that you miss about the TX home school laws? I've always considered TN to be a fairly home school friendly state (in terms of loose regulations anyhow) so I'm interested to hear what is different there. Blessings! -Marissa
