Hello!  I have 2 kids they are 2 and 1.  I know it is early to start but I want to get a headstart on finding what there is and what I want to do.  If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them.

We are in the middle of your 1st year of homeschooling and I must say I have enjoyed it so much!  I am already looking into curriculum for next year. :)

I have not "officially" homeschooled my 4yr old.  He and I use online programs Nickjr.boost and PBS Play.  We are involved in our local recreation centers, Metro Parks preschool programs, and any other activities for enrichment.  Sometimes I feel we do not really belong in the Homeschool Movement due to my choice in curriculum, which is a satelite program or distance learning through Christian Libery Academy?  This has been difficult to find homeschool groups in my area who are not clannish and unwelcoming of those who are not "traditional" or "progressive" homeschoolers.  Another difficulty is trying to find suitable field trips for my son...I some creativity when it comes to that, however I think it would be fun if my son could join others his age...help.

Question: Is it normal for the school to be sending me all the normal back to school stuff, like meet the teacher days and schedule pick up days, etc when they have received my letter withdrawing my children? I am not sure if I should respond to these or just leave them alone. I used the HSLDA form letter just wondering if this is something schools normally do or not?

I'm new this year, the best thing I have done is find a HS group or co op. I have gotten a lot of help even teacher books. Just be excited. i think that is going to help my kids, it has already. they are not nervous bc I am not showing how nervous I am deep inside. I have a brilliant 7 year old and a LD/ Autistic 6 year old who needs one on one and nobody would help him at our school. God camman ds us to teach our children and so therfor I am. We are using a free online public school that we can choose any cirrculum we want and all we have to do is test at the end out the year. Its called Epic one on one. My 6 year old is using Compass Learning online along with Creativity Express and Reading Eggs. My 7 year old is using Calvert or Accelerrated christian Education.

Hi there,

Does anyone know of a really good crafts idea website or book? I am not a very creative person on my own but if I have directions it's much easier!

Isn't the social skills they need to be polite when spoken to and not being disrespectful? I get this from most homeschoolers and not so much from children who attend public school. So the question is, if I put my child in public school he/she won't learn how to be social in a polite manner? I'll stick with homeschooling thank you!!!

Crystal I know how you feel. My son is only 4, but we've been considering home school for a few years and now have fully decided that's what we are going to do. It seems everyone around us had something negative to say about it. The only point they kept trying to make is that he will not learn any social skills. I can see their concern, and I would imagine there are homeschoolers that do not get enough interaction with other children, but that will not be the case in our situation. Many would just say, "Oh I've heard too many bad things about home schooling." To which I reply,"I've heard many bad things about public school as well." I know home schooling isn't an option for a lot of families and it takes a lot of time and dedication, but I feel that it will be well worth it. As for all the skeptics around us that always look at us like we're crazy when the subject is brought up, well they'll see how it plays out. :) Good luck and never let anyone make you feel like it isn't the right choice. Only you and your family know what is right for you.

I am wanting to start homeschooling this next year. I am having issues with the school district and my advanced child. Because of the standardized tests, he doesn't test high, but he is 4 years above on reading spelling ect.. 2 years in math ect... But he doesn't get help, our kindegartner who is at a kindegarten level is getting high ability. Im confused and want the kids to get what they need. I want to hear both the good and bad so I can weigh my options. I have heard great things, but also have been told by close family how hard it is and I feel like they have already set up our family for failure.
